Pollution Control Overview

Electrochemical Pollution Control (EPC) is engaged in development of electrochemical treatment processes for wastewater of various industrial effluents, decontamination of sludge with reference to heavy metals, development of methods for the removal of gaseous effluents, environmental impact assessment, safety audit & risk analysis and ground water pollution assessment. Major activities involve individual or combination of methods for the treatment of industrial waste waters, process waters or water rejects. Electrochemical treatment methods like electrooxidation, electrocoagulation, etc. Ion exchange methods coupled with electrobio or other cleaner methods. Biological treatment methods like application of algae, fungi, bacteria etc. and biomaterials Photochemical/ solar treatment methods for the organic toxicants like dye stuffs, coloring, toxic pollutants Membrane methods for the separation of water from effluens or washwater or Wastewater State of the art membranes like ceramic membranes, inorganic membranes

The programme envisages as follows:

  • To progressively convert and substitute the classical chemical methods (toxic) by cleaner and improvised approach in the treatment of industrial effluents, water and wastewater.

  • Management of industrial effluents to achieve zero discharge concepts.

  • Recover and recycle precious natural resources including water.

  • Recover and recycle raw materials in the industrial sector for a better economically acceptable and ecologically improvised techniques and methods.

  • Metal recovery, toxic removal, pollution management, etc.

  • To make technical and scientific developments for chemical free, industrial operations in current highly polluted Indian scenario.

  • To educate and encourage the Indian industrialists to follow cleaner industrial operations using the state of art methods in the pollution control treatments.
